By soaking the film in dye and staining the film emulsion, film tinting is the technique of adding colour to black-and-white film. The result is that all of the light that enters through is filtered, turning what would have been white light into light that has a colour. Even though it was straightforward in theory, tinting was a difficult process.
Rolls of film were used for editing, with numbered frames of film placed between scenes for eventual assembling. Following printing and processing from the negative, these rolls were submerged in aniline dyes that matched the colours indicated in the script or continuity.
In order for the dye to be absorbed into the emulsion more quickly and with better results, hardening fixer was not put on the film.
The film would be assembled correctly and rewound into reels for transportation after drying on substantial film drums. Similar toning was used, but instead of aniline dyes, chemicals were used to transform the silver picture into coloured salts.
The Global Tinted film market accounted for $XX Billion in 2021 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2022 to 2030.
