In essence, this enables you to roll up a piece of the screen that is buried and transform a smaller panel into a much larger display by just tugging on it.
There is currently no information from Intel or Samsung Display about when the slidable PC will become a reality. It has 24 cores, 32 threads, and a 5.8GHz clock speed.
It increases single-threaded performance by up to 15% and multi-threaded performance by up to 41%. The combined DDR5 and DDR4 RAM will have a 128GB memory capacity and a 253W maximum turbo power.
The Global Slidable display PC market accounted for $XX Billion in 2021 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2022 to 2030.
Samsung showcased an unusual computing form factor at Intel’s Innovation event that can be converted from a 13-inch to a 17-inch tablet by just taking the display apart. Samsung refers to it as “the world’s first 17-inch slidable display for PC” and it does just what it says on the tin. It has a rollable OLED panel.
The rolling display section “slides” along rails in the frame to expand into a larger 17-inch panel from a space-saving 13-inch design instead of bending over a hinge like foldable OLED screens on Samsung phones.
When the screen rolled back into a smaller form factor or reached its maximum size, there were a few audible thumps and a faintly perceptible wrinkle reflection at the separation notch in the frame that ran along the panel.
Samsung’s multi year development into OLED panels with plastic substrates that can flex, bend, or roll appears to have culminated in this. There are already well-established product lines with foldable screens, like the Galaxy Z Fold 4, but there aren’t any rollable display devices that are already on the market.
