The European oilseed crushers, vegetable oil refiners, and bottlers are represented by the EU Vegetable Oil and Protein Meal Industry Association.
The industry refines crude tropical oils, such as palm oil, palm kernel oil, and coconut oil, as well as oils and meals made from crushed oilseeds, including rapeseed, sunflower seed, soybean, and linseed.
The meals, as well as the unrefined and refined oils, are mostly sold on the European market for use in food, feed, technical, and energy applications. The most used base oil for making biodiesel in Europe is rapeseed oil.
The Europe Vegetable oil market accounted for $XX Billion in 2021 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2022 to 2030.
Eni launches the first phase of vegetable oil production for biorefining. Castor, croton, and cotton seeds will be processed at the agri-hub to produce vegetable oil.
Because they originate from plants that are tolerant of aridity and suitable for growing on degraded soils, such as castor crops, seeds taken from spontaneous plants (croton), and byproducts of the cotton supply chain, these sustainable, agri-feedstock raw materials do not compete with the food supply chain.
For the benefit of livestock and food production, the plant will also create feed and bio-fertilizers from the protein component of the seeds, enhancing food security.
The facility will also serve as a technical assistance and training centre for farmers. The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC-EU) sustainability scheme, one of the primary voluntary standards recognized by the European Commission for biofuel certification, has accredited Eni, its supply chain, and all created agro – food (RED II).
