HONING OILS MARKET
INTRODUCTION
Honing oil is a liquid, solution, or emulsion that may or may not contain oil and is used to help cut or grind metal using abrasive tools or stones. It is also known as cutting fluid, tool oil, machining oil, and cutting oil.
When using a sharpening stone, honing oil is applied to keep the stone clean, remove scrap metal (swarf), and more effectively create a razor-sharp edge on a metal blade, such as a knife.
In a machine shop, it also removes extra heat and, depending on the composition, may stop accidental metal welding and ripping. Or it may contain additional additives to avoid stone loading or metal deactivators to prevent discoloration of copper-containing alloys when used with materials like soft copper.
Petroleum-based (usually mineral oils) and non-petroleum-based (often water or vegetable oils) honing oils are the two most popular categories. Chlorine, sulphur, rust inhibitors, and detergents are examples of typical additions.
The perfect consistency for honing stones is honing oil. It won’t glaze it or gum it up, and it will only offer enough lubrication to prevent the stone from wearing out too soon.

HONING OILS MARKET NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH
A new professional-grade honing oil for hardened steels, nickel alloys, and a variety of workshop applications was just released by Champion Oil.
A carefully chosen combination of basic fluids and additives safe for use with yellow metals went into creating the high-performance honing and finishing fluid.
The low-viscosity, chlorine-free plain oil has high levels of synthetic ester lubricity additive for machining hardened steels and nickel alloys, as well as enhanced antioxidant protection and extreme-pressure additives for corrosion prevention.
The fluid’s high lubricity is intended to promote improved finish quality, faster work rates, and longer tool life. The work surface can be cleaned of fine abrasives with the use of low-odor solvent technology without the offensive smell and volatile nature of kerosene-based fluids.
In addition to metal-bonded diamond stones, the fluid is ideal for honing non-ferrous metals with ceramic or bakelite-bonded carborundum or silicon carbide stones.
The oil is offered in 55-gallon drums, is accepted by several machine makers, and is compatible with honing stones that include sulphur.
