The electronically scanned phased array radar known as WLR locates weapons. The radar tracks friendly fire to find the impact site of friendly artillery fire so that appropriate modifications can be made while also automatically locating hostile artillery, mortars, and rocket launchers.
India created a transportable artillery-locating phased array radar called the Weapon Locating Radar, also referred to as Swathi. In order to pinpoint the source of counter-battery fire, this counter-battery radar is built to track and detect incoming artillery and rocket fire.

Instead of the baseline Swathi that is mounted on an 88 heavy-duty vehicle for easier operations in the mountainous terrain, the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) has created the Swathi Mark-II Weapon Locating Radar that is mounted on a BEML-manufactured 66 truck.
Additionally, the Swathi Mark-II performs better than its predecessor in some areas, which could lead to the Army placing more orders for the new model in the near future. The older version of Swathi, which the Indian Army has already purchased 30 units of, is currently deployed across the Line of Control (LoC).
The Mark-II was created in response to the Army’s desire for a Weapon Locating Radar with a smaller footprint in mountainous terrain.
The Swathi Mark-II Weapon Locating Radar automatically identifies enemy guns, mortars, and rocket launchers that are being fired from up to an 80-kilometre distance. The sophisticated algorithms are in charge of finding, locating, and tracking the necessary targets.
His radar is equipped with the capacity to handle simultaneous firing from weapons stationed at various places and is designed to identify projectiles with small cross sections across the battlespace.
This will enable the Indian Army to take a preventative action. The Swathi Mark-II WLR has been approved after undergoing a new round of trials in the mountainous terrain and is optimised for high altitude warfare.
