    The new level metre improves on the previous version in two ways. The first is the small radar beam width, and the second is the addition of oceanographic functions such as tide gauging and wave analysis. We decreased the radar beam width to 5°, which is smaller than the bulk of competing devices’ 8°.

     

    Small beam width simplifies installation and ensures that neighbouring structures such as bridge railings or pillars do not interfere with water level measuring accuracy. The instrument’s precision is +/- 2 mm.

     

    There is also an oceanic variant.The oceanographic version scans at a rate of 10 scans per second and reports various wave and tide statistics such as major wave height, zero up and crisp periods, and median sea level.
