MarineTraffic provides information about ships’ current geographical positions as well as other related information, such as ship details, destination, estimated time of arrival, photographs, port traffic statistics, weather conditions, points of interest, and so on.
What exactly is ship tracking, and how does MarineTraffic assist millions of users in following the world’s fleet in real time? Understanding not only where the ships are now, but also where they have been and will be, results in greater visibility and transparency on what is happening at sea, allowing for important decisions.
The Global Marine traffic monitoring system market accounted for $XX Billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2023 to 2030.
India introduces a software solution for vessel traffic management and monitoring systems. The Ministry of Shipping in India announced the launch of a Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) and Vessel Traffic Monitoring Systems (VTMS) software system on Tuesday.
The software solution developed by the Indian Institute of Technology in Chennai, 347 kilometres east of Bengaluru, will assess vessel positions, issue meteorological hazard warnings, and control traffic within a port or waterway in great detail.
There are around 15 VTS systems functioning throughout the Indian Coast, and there is no standardisation in VTS software because each system has its own VTS software.
The ministry said in a statement that a prototype system will be constructed in 10 months, and that in the meantime, a parallel system will be tested and used for day-to-day operations.
VTMS is required under the IMO Convention SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) because it integrates all of the information into a single operator working environment for ease of use and to enable for effective traffic organisation and communication.
Enditem Development of local VTS software will reduce foreign exchange expenditure on this issue while also reducing reliance on foreign support for VTS software. The availability of Indian VTS software will enable Indian firms to compete commercially in global tenders.
