Huhtamaki set to launch next generation tube laminates with ISCC certified renewable content in partnership with LyondellBasell, Plastuni Lisses and Groupe Rocher for use in cosmetics and food sectors.Next-generation sustainable tube laminates have been developed by Huhtamaki, a significant global provider of sustainable packaging solutions for customers worldwide.
Huhtamaki is introducing a tube laminate with more than 40% recycled content made from renewable based polymers in collaboration with LyondellBasell, Plastuni Lisses (Groupe Somater), and Groupe Rocher. The laminate is primarily appropriate for products used in the food, personal care, oral care, and cosmetics industries. For these areas, the new laminate significantly advances fully circular flexible packaging solutions.
Huhtamaki has developed its next generation of tube laminates by working across the value chain, where each partner has a specific responsibility. LyondellBasell supplied the resin, Huhtamaki produced the laminates, Plastuni Lisses produced the tubes, and the leading cosmetics, home care, and apparel company Groupe Rocher served as the brand owner. In order to maximise the circularity of laminated tubes, Huhtamaki concentrated on making it easier for recycled materials to be incorporated into and used to create recyclable goods. In order to achieve this, it utilised resins from LyondellBasell’s ground-breaking CirculenRenew polymers, which are created using waste and residues, such as used cooking oil, as renewable feedstock. These have the ISCC PLUS standard certification.
