Automatic train supervision, or ATS, is a strategy to improve performance that uses GUI-based applications to operate, monitor, and track the train. For increased effectiveness, the end user directs the signal train to the field and the field to the train.
For simultaneous convergence of the signal, ATS connects with the interlocking IXL and the vehicle on-board controller (VOBC=ATP+ATO=ATC). With ATS, all operations are carried out by the server (a Scada) and all control commands are delivered by the client (an end user workstation).
To execute the commands with the appropriate regional authority, all information travels from the client to the server and vice versa. According to the ATS/DCS design architecture, every server connects to devices like ZC, IXL, and VOBC via a switch and router and is authenticated using a licence or another security pattern.

The So Paulo Metro Line 8 in Brazil, owned and run by Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos, has begun using the Rail 9000 automatic train supervision (ATS) system from Invensys Rail Dimetronic (CPTM). A centralised traffic control (CTC) system, SIREI intelligent regulation control, and maintenance support are all included in the Rail 9000 ATS.
The new system operates an Operational Control Center that automatically oversees, controls, and maintains Line 8. (OCC). Prior to the installation of a new interlocking system based on the Westrace microprocessor, also created by Invensys Rail, the system will also monitor, operate, and regulate the line’s current relay-based interlockings. The transition from electromechanical to a contemporary railway signalling system is made easier by the Rail 9000 system.
