An “airbag cover” constructed of TPE is a part of the airbag devices used to protect passengers in automobiles. Important requirements for TPE used for airbag covers include impact performance at low temperatures and durability to retain performance over many years.
Airbag covers and wraps shield the airbag throughout its useful life against contamination by external objects. A variety of materials, including nonwoven textiles made of polypropylene (PP), polyester (PET), polyamide (PA), and translucent polyethylene (PE) film, can be used to create them.
When a collision occurs, airbags, which are inflatable cushions installed into cars, shield the occupants from being struck by the inside of the car or by outside objects like other cars or trees. Sensors start measuring impact force as soon as a crash occurs.
The lightweight fabric airbag and the inflator device are both contained in the airbag module. An airbag module, collision sensors, and a diagnostic unit are the three fundamental components of the airbag system. Some systems may also feature an on/off switch that can be used to deactivate the airbag.
With the automotive industry seeking a greater number of sustainable products to help reduce its impact on the environment, so-called green products are high on the manufacturers
The global Automotive airbag cover market accounted for $XX Billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2023 to 2030.
.A thermoplastic elastomer airbag cover made from renewable resources is being introduced by a German firm (TPE). The new elastomer matches the technical performance provided by oil-based elastomers, including consistent physical qualities over a wide temperature range.
It contains at least 35% biomass feedstock. DuPont (Stand 6D33) and Takati-Petri engineers worked together to create the new elastomer known as Hytrel RS. It is based on a thermoplastic ether-ester elastomer (TPC-ET) that has soft segments made of biomass-derived polyether and rigid segments made of polybutylene terephthalate.
