An "airbag cover" constructed of TPE is a part of the airbag devices used to protect passengers in automobiles. Important requirements for TPE used for airbag covers include impact performance at low temperatures and durability to retain performance over many years.

It contains at least 35% biomass feedstock. DuPont (Stand 6D33) and Takati-Petri engineers worked together to create the new elastomer known as Hytrel RS. It is based on a thermoplastic ether-ester elastomer (TPC-ET) that has soft segments made of biomass-derived polyether and rigid segments made of polybutylene terephthalate.
