    AUTOMOTIVE NOX SENSOR MARKET

    INTRODUCTION

The NOx sensor is a component of the after-treatment system for NOx reduction in diesel automobiles using SCR systems based on urea. The concentration of engine-out NOx gas is immediately measured by a sensor that is situated upstream of the SCR catalyst, which aids in determining the ideal urea injection dosage.

The NOx sensor is in charge of measuring the levels of NOx produced by the vehicle after the combustion cycle. Its job is to keep an eye on the catalyst’s operation and make sure it isn’t producing too many gases.

AUTOMOTIVE NOX SENSOR MARKET NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology will be introduced by heavy commercial vehicle manufacturers to comply with the tougher standards for the nationwide phased rollout of BS IV regulations with On Board Diagnostics II (OBD II).

The award-winning Smart NOx sensor is now available in India, according to the multinational auto supplier Continental, for use in heavy commercial vehicle manufacturers’ SCR technology-based emission reduction programs.

The NOx sensor serves as a crucial part of the OBD closed-loop control system and serves two functions in this SCR system: it measures NOx emissions and provides feedback to the SCR Control Unit to inject urea in proportion to the required reduction of NOx.

It also assists in monitoring emissions in the field. By regulating the NOx emissions in the exhaust, SCR technology enables engine optimization in heavy commercial vehicles for increased fuel efficiency.

It shows a definite advantage over Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology in this regard. Prior to the exhaust gases passing through an SCR catalytic converter, where the nitrous oxides are transformed into non-toxic nitrogen gas and water vapor, a reducing agent (commonly known as Ad Blue) is injected into the exhaust gases.

The OBD II system identifies issues, alerts the driver, and helps with the evaluation and repair of electronic components that control emissions.
