    VDK enables organisations to shorten the time it takes to add cutting-edge LiDAR capabilities to autonomous vehicles, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), mobile delivery devices, industrial robotics, drones, and other applications.

     

    (Graphic: Velodyne LiDAR) announced today a new software development kit that enables clients to include the superior capabilities of Velodyne’s Vella LiDAR perception software into their autonomous solutions.

     

    The Vella Development Kit (VDK) allows organisations to shorten the time it takes to add cutting-edge LiDAR capabilities to autonomous vehicles, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), mobile delivery devices, industrial robotics, drones, and other applications.

     

    VDK enables businesses to make better use of their development resources by lowering the time and effort required to incorporate 3D LiDAR sensors into apps. VDK has Vella processing tools that convert raw point cloud data into richer, more descriptive information in real time.

     

    These higher-level perception outputs, such as object classification, velocity measurement, semantic scene segmentation, and obstacle identification, can be used directly by autonomous system developers who lack extensive knowledge of LiDAR processing.

     

    VDK is intended to take advantage of the distinct and strong capabilities of Velodyne’s latest solid-state Velarray H800 and Velarray M1600 LiDAR sensors, with support for additional sensors being added with each release.
