A barge is a particular class of marine vessel used primarily for the movement of cargo. They float and are pulled or towed by other ships rather than moving freely like a boat would. Barges are flat-bottomed to guarantee maximum cargo capacity and are used in lakes, canals, inland waterways, and frequently at seaports.
By their purpose and cargo volume, barges are divided into different categories. Barge transportation improves the climate by producing significantly fewer emissions than conventional trucking. Their use can also lessen highway gridlock, which helps to improve air quality.
The Global barge vessel market accounted for $XX Billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2023 to 2030.
Crowley fuels and Greenbrier marine Launched a New Fuel Barge for Alaska. For a limited, private launch at Greenbrier’s facility in Portland, Oregon, a select group of representatives from Crowley and Greenbrier gathered.
All attendees took part in a quick, socially awkward christening ceremony on the barge deck and launched the barge into the sea. It had never been done before at Greenbrier Marine to watch a launch in this manner.
The launch was only open to a select group of people for health and safety reasons due to ongoing COVID-19 procedures. A new wave of affordable, sustainable service for Alaskan communities and commercial clients will be delivered by The Qamun and Aurora together.
Teams at Crowley and Greenbrier have worked hard to ensure that this vessel’s design and construction provide exceptional service to ensure that high quality, life-sustaining fuel supply continues to reach across the state’s most remote areas on time.
On this significant undertaking, it has been a pleasure working with Crowley. Working together on this Jones Act-compliant barge was a great example of how they can work together to furnish the U.S. with dependable, high-quality marine goods and services.
I am happy that they were able to film the spectacle for those who were unable to witness the socially distant barge launch, which was a great success.
