    BENTAZONE MARKET

    INTRODUCTION

A pesticide called bentazon is used to keep sedge and broadleaf weeds out of crops used for human consumption. Although it can be used on alfalfa, beans, corn, and turf and lawn management, it is most frequently employed on soybean crops.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has found bentazon in groundwater, including some drinking water well samples and public water supplies. Bentazon concentrations were lower than MDH recommendation values in samples of drinking water and water supplies. Surface waters that are not used for drinking water have been shown to contain betazon.

Herbicides use the chemical bentazon, which is produced by BASF Chemicals. It belongs to the chemical class known as thiadiazine. Commercially available sodium bentazon has a light brown appearance. The EPA has designated bentazon as a Category E chemical since it is thought to not cause human cancer (as based on testing conducted on animals).

Bentazon’s effects on people in terms of toxicity and/or carcinogenicity, however, have not been the subject of any studies or trials. Bentazone is a benzothiadiazine with a position 3 isopropyl group substitution. It is composed of 1H-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole-4(3H)-one. It functions as a herbicide, a xenobiotic, and an environmental pollutant.

It is regarded as safe for use on lawns, turf, alfalfa, beans (other than garbanzo beans), maize, peanuts, peas (other than black-eyed peas), pepper, peppermint, rice, sorghum, soybeans, and spearmint.

To prevent weeds from spreading among food crops, bentazon is typically sprayed on them directly or treated aerially. High heat should be avoided while using bentazon-containing herbicides since it will release hazardous nitrogen and sulphur fumes.

Bentazon is generally swiftly digested and broken down by both plants and animals. Yet, a significant issue with regard to water contamination is soil leaching and runoff.

All commercially marketed herbicides containing bentazon must bear warning warnings about potential hazards to groundwater and the environment. Both statements advise against using or disposing of bentazon near water or in locations where soil leaching is frequent.

The EPA has designated bentazon as a “Category E” chemical since it is thought to not cause human cancer (as based on testing conducted on animals).

    BENTAZONE MARKET RECENT DEVELOPMENT

By preventing photosynthesis, the herbicide bentazone selectively kills broadleaf weeds. It is common in soybean-growing regions, including those that do not use genetically modified organisms (GMOs). This herbicide is a double-edged blade because it can harm crops when used, as well.

Hence, choosing cultivars that are resistant to bentazone is a challenge. The absorption and metabolism of bentazone in soybean, as well as the effects of efficient application and cultivar selection on yield and crop damage, were all factors that we systematically examined.

These factors included phenotypic and genotypic variations among soybean accessions, application timing and method, bentazone absorption and metabolism in soybean, and the absorption and metabolism of bentazone in soybean. Also, advise that more be conducted in order to find cultivars of soybean that are more tolerable.

Bentazon affects the eyes, skin, and respiratory system, leading to symptoms that resemble allergies. Bentazon consumption results in vomiting, shaking, nausea, and breathing difficulties. To reduce skin contact, employees handling bentazon must wash their hands before using the restroom, eating, drinking, or smoking.

The effects of ingesting bentazon have been seen in people who used the herbicide to end their lives. Bentazon consumption has been shown to result in fevers, hyperthermia, tachycardia (rapid heartbeat), dyspnea (shortness of breath), and renal failure (kidney failure). An adult who consumed 88 grams of bentazon passed away.

Bentazon’s effects on people in terms of toxicity and/or carcinogenicity, however, have not been the subject of any studies or trials. Bentazon exposure would be greatest among those applying the herbicide, hence it has been recommended that they always wear protective clothes (goggles, gloves, and aprons) when handling the substance.
