Any type of bulk material, from light to heavy and from fine to huge lumps, can be raised using a bucket elevator. An inclined or vertical centrifugal discharge elevator is possible. Vertical elevators must be operated at a reasonably high speed since they completely rely on centrifugal force to move the material into the discharge chute.
The discharge chute of an inclined elevator with buckets that are close or far apart may be partially positioned beneath the head pulley. They may move more slowly since they do not rely solely on centrifugal force to propel the material into the chute.
There are spaced buckets with rounded bottoms in almost all centrifugal discharge elevators. At the foot pulley, they take their load out of a boot, a pit, or a heap of materials.
