First LNG bunker barge constructed in Spain is launched by Scale Gas and Knutsen. It will be based in Barcelona’s Port and advocate for the use of LNG as a sustainable fuel for marine transportation.
It will provide services to more customers in the Mediterranean area, helping to ensure supply security there and advancing the use of LNG in maritime transportation. The barge has a storage capacity of 5000 m3, two bilobal tanks with a capacity of 2500 m3, and a 1,000 m3/hr LNG supply capability.
With the promotion of LNG as a sustainable fuel in maritime transport, the vessel’s construction represents a move towards achieving European decarbonization objectives.
This programme is a part of a larger European initiative, which Enagás is coordinating as part of the LNGhive2 strategy. The project’s goals are to support the growth of the LNG market as a sustainable maritime fuel and ensure supply in ports in accordance with the European directive on alternative fuels.
The Pioneer Knutsen strategy, which Knutsen started years ago, to rely on small-scale LNG as a tool to strengthen the use of LNG as a marine fuel, is confirmed by the Haugesund Knutsen.
This will aid in the goal of decarbonization and environment improvement in Europe and the Mediterranean. It is a wonderful illustration of how cooperation between various industry participants will enable us to jointly accomplish the decarbonization objectives with the aid of the public sector.
