Chemical cargo barge cleaning is the process of emptying the barge's containers of any remaining cargo and cleaning them so that it can be loaded with new or different cargo, inspected, or repaired. Cleaning on a barge can be done while it's at a pier, in a dry berth, beached, or at anchor.

The Pearl of Periyar is a new barge that Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT) has introduced for the transit of ammonia.
