Junker Launches a New CNC Thread Grinding Machine with Small Dimensions and Features Relief Controlled by CNC Erwin Junker Machinery, Inc. has added a new member to its "Tapomat" line of CNC thread grinders while also redesigning the machine. Junker developed the new machine in response to a market demand for lower size ranges and CNC controlled relief grinding.

 

Tapomat 1000 generates right or left hand threads ranging from.8 to 4mm. It has chucking lengths as long as 100mm and grinding lengths as long as 50mm.The new Tapomat 1000 is small and compact, with no exterior components protruding from the machine.

 

Inside the enclosure, the hydraulic power pack, coolant pumps, and electrical cabinet are all flush with the machine's profile. For operator convenience, the control system swivels in and out.

 

A 5 kilowatt (6.5 hp) wheelhead spindle motor powers the new Tapomat grinder. With roller guides, the operator can manually angle the wheelhead +10/ -7 degrees. The dressing device swivels +12/-12 degrees as well. Angle precision is ensured by an encoder feedback mechanism on both the wheelhead and the dresser. A roll device for multi-rib thread profiles can be added to the Tapomat.

 

The workhead spindle (C-axis) is operated directly by a servomotor, with no belts or gears involved. Other characteristics that contribute to maximum accuracy and rigidity include X-axis glass scales, hydrostatic cylindrical guideways for the wheel head infeed axis, and a hydrostatic infeed screw that eliminates friction and backlash in the wheelhead infeed.
