It is a system of refrigerators, freezers, high tech warehousing which is used to keep the goods at a right temperature for transportation, storage and distribution from the production unit to the consumer.

The cold chain storage industry is highly necessary in the developing nations with increasing population rate due to the increasing demand and supply for perishable goods but lack on the infrastructural requirements

It is quite expected that wherever there is a usage of advance technology such as block chain and AI embedded in a sector, the developed countries tend to perform better. Although the requirement for the cold chain storage is much needed in the subtropical regions and hot places such as Africa, South Asian countries etc.

Furthermore the scope of development and growth of this booming sector is emerging in this developing and underdeveloped nations where many western companies are participating and investing in those countries and transforming their lives.

During the year 2019 the highest market share was with North America; second highest share was with Asia Pacific region and the least was with the Latin America region. But if we see according to the population density, it is quite known that the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East & Africa has the most population and according to it the market share is not quite justified.

The global cold chain logistics market is estimated at $XX Billion in 2020 growing at –% CAGR till 2025.

The cold chain logistics market has also been impacted through the pandemic and cold chain logistics sector could consider this pandemic as blessing.

The main reason for this is that due to lockdown in several places the consumption has been increased and specially for the packed foods/goods which require cold and adequate temperatures for to be preserved for a long time and also the pharmaceuticals companies demand also risen for the fact of transporting essential medicines and medical equipment in safe and hygiene containers / compartments.

The cold chain industry will certainly play a major role in the future of mankind for making their life and a world a better place.

But still in the developing and the developed nations which are agrarian economy (where a majority of the population is directly or indirectly employed in agriculture sector) the cold chain storage logistics system should be upgraded in terms of technology, warehousing space, good governance, skilled labours / workers and amongst others.

If we look at India as an example, where the central and the state governments have taken several issues over the recent years to boost the cold chain infrastructure and industry participation. Such as more than 300 cold chain projects being approved during 2019 and setting National Centre for Cold Chain Development (NCCD) which will help in promoting and developing cold chain storage according to the international standards and many more.

These initiatives will definitely help in boosting the cold chain storage logistics sector in India and on a similar path the developing and underdeveloped nations should take initiatives to take this sector and as well their economy to a new heights.
