    GLOBAL CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT SUSPENSION MARKET

    KEY FINDINGS

    • Tracked vehicles such as Excavators, Dozers and Skid steer loaders should be rigid during operations for stability and productivity. So, axle suspensions are eliminated in order to come over this situation.
    • All the OEM’s in their construction machinery fleet will have a mandatory seat suspension despite of axle suspension.
    • Seat suspensions are designed and manufactured with international standards for operator safety. Until now companies have developed and installed all the required comfort features, that can be provided to the operator’s seat.
    • Globally very less machinery are equipped with axle suspension, unless requirement meets the  On-site operations.

    INTRODUCTION

Proper seat suspensions should be selected to avoid potential health risk to the operators of construction equipment to whole body vibration (WBV) exposure.

The final transfer of vehicle vibration is through seat, having a seat that provides good vibration isolation and allows good vehicle control is prime importance to operator safety and health.

The recommended of exposure limits of WBV is 2 to 4Hz, in heavy equipment for reduction in risk of injuries to the back, neck, or head for vehicle operators. Seat suspensions are majorly used in tracked vehicles especially in backhoe loaders.

Dump trucks, Wheeled loaders and Off-highway vehicles are equipped with Boom suspensions which utilizes gas/oil accumulators connected to the lift cylinders to absorb shocks and smooth out rough roads for faster cycle times, less spillage and increased operator comfort.

    CONSTRUCTIOIN EQUIPMENT SUSPENSION MARKET DYNAMICS

Komatsu’s wheel loader is fitted with electronically controlled suspension system (ride control system) which uses accumulator to minimize boom arm shock, giving the operator a smoother ride.

This reduces operator fatigue and material spillage during load and carrying operations. Basically, this is a boom suspension with speed sensitive, meaning the boom adapts to the ranging speeds.

Their seat is equipped with air suspension, which includes heated and ventilated operator seat provides enhanced support on rough roads and dampens machine vibrations.

As almost all companies have developed their own seat suspensions and axle suspensions, the improvements are the results of R&D and time evolving innovation in this field. As majority of construction machinery should be rigid for their working conditions, suspension doesn’t come into the perspective, when they are developing a machinery.

To counter the adverse effects on the operator, rigid-frame manufacturers offer suspended seats designed to absorb some of the shock.

Case and Liebherr have developed the seat to 5 way adjustable with mechanical spring and Air spring seats, along with automatic weight adjustments, vertical and longitudinal seat damping, seat and armrests are adjustable and along with heated seats.

Track loaders with Ride control / Loader suspension have options to reduce material loss in rigid-frame undercarriages. Single-level suspension systems include torsion axles and standard bogie wheels, offering a base level of suspension.

The most advanced option is a dual-level system that features independent torsion axles between the undercarriage and machine, as well as bogie wheels that flex with the track.

GLOBAL CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT SUSPENSION MARKET SIZE AND FORECAST

Global Construction Equipment Suspension market is growing at XX% CAGR and has a market size of $XX Billon in 2030.

    COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

The construction equipment suspension market is concentrated among few vendors who are closely aligned with OEMs.

Doosan upgraded their 30-ton articulated truck, with a new front suspension and rear tandems. The hydro-gas, self-levelling front suspension have greater driving comfort and smoothness, especially when the bed is empty. The front suspension is also self-levelling, and the ride characteristics of the truck can be customized by adjusting the pressure.

Bobcat introduced a compact track loader with 5-Link torsion suspension undercarriage that provides increased performance, operator comfort and serviceability, this compact track loaders are the first Bobcat loaders manufactured with the new undercarriage.

The Terex track loader features undercarriage with full suspension with the help of torsion bars mounted in the tracks for a 50-50 weight distribution, allowing the machine to pull off the entire track length.

Volvo’s wheeled construction machinery fleet is equipped with Boom Suspension System (BSS) engages at lower speeds to absorb shocks and reduce bouncing over rough or bumpy terrain and also boost productivity by up to 20%, absorbing shock and reducing the bouncing and bucket spillage that occur when operating on rough ground with combination of sturdy tyres.
