The second type of curing agents includes anionic and cationic initiators. They are used to catalyse the homopolymerisation of epoxy resins. Molecules which can provide an anion such as tertiary amines, secondary amines and metal alkoxides are effective anionic initiators for epoxy resins.
Aliphatic amine (Three Bond 2103) is curing agent for epoxy resin ant able to cure at room temperature. The cured resin has excellent properties, and its heat resistance is 100°C.
Aromatic amine has been developed to achieve greater heat resistance and chemical resistance than those of aliphatic amine.some mixtures a hardener is used simply to increase the resilience of the mixture once it sets.
In other mixtures a hardener is used as a curing component. A hardener can be either a reactant or a catalyst in the chemical reaction that occurs during the mixing process. A hardener may also be known as an accelerator.
