Two control modes for a missile guidance system that alternately control the missile’s thrust vector. Once the missile is significantly oriented towards an airborne target using the first control mode’s turning commands, the missile is guided by the second control mode along a homing path in pursuit of the target.
The first mode is enabled at an angular rate of the target line of sight over a specified threshold, and the second mode is enabled with a light-of-sight rate below the threshold, both of which are controlled by switches that are operated by a threshold detector.

The target of the missile was quite close to three neutral vessels when it was struck by the missile. No collateral damage was done to the neutral vessels because the target was sunk and destroyed with a single shot.
These testing supported the Dual Mode BRIMSTONE’s first pass accuracy and lethality against difficult targets in demanding situations.
