An electric car’s drained battery or battery pack may be switched out for a fully charged one right away at a location known as an electric vehicle battery swap, which eliminates the need to wait for the vehicle’s battery to charge.
In comparison to charging stations, battery switching stations need far less installation area and provide a faster solution to range anxiety. Each battery swap takes less than 10 minutes.

Nio, a Chinese automaker and provider of power solutions, has announced plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Europe where it would create battery swap stations for the global market.
Nio currently has an R&D facility in San Jose, and the company has already agreed to lease a more than 200,000 square foot structure for its US headquarters and electric car innovation centre.
Nio is trying to freshen up its organisational structure and increase recruiting in order to develop its business operations in Europe.
The corporation wants to minimise the costs associated with exporting from China, which is the main driver for the decision. In the future, Nio will produce Charging Piles and Battery Swap Stations (BSS) in Europe.
The first battery swap station in Norway has been formally inaugurated by NIO. It is located near the E-18 in Lier, a few miles north of Drammen. After a few months of preparation, the location was ready.
It is the second-generation Power Swap Station 2.0, which contains an empty slot for picking up a depleted battery (or an older/previous-generation battery when upgrading) and 14 battery slots, including 13 battery packs (vs. 5 in the 1.0 version).
The battery swap stations will help with the market introduction of the NIO ES8 model and the subsequent NIO electric vehicles (all are compatible with the battery swap system).
