Huhtamaki to launch sustainable flexible packaging innovation. The game-changing technology provides a unique combination of best in-class protection, full recyclability and affordability.
Several food and critical goods manufacturers have made similar commitments. Although Huhtamaki’s packaging can currently be recycled in large portions (70%) and offers many advantages, such as lowering transportation emissions, preventing food waste, and supporting affordability, lightweight flexible packaging is frequently not recyclable in post-consumer recovery streams.
Huhtamaki is unveiling three distinct and potent sustainable solutions in mono-material flexible packaging leveraging our global scientific experience. These ground-breaking inventions created new standards for the sector. In comparison to the complicated, multilayered materials they are meant to replace, they are intended to be recyclable and require less materials.
The combination of the largest proportion of mono-material currently available on the market and the fact that this is supplied without any sacrifice on either product protection or pricing is what distinguishes the innovations as unique and transformational. Additionally, by increasing the proportion of mono-material in each of our solutions, recycling becomes more feasible from a technological and financial standpoint.
The most demanding applications may be met by Huhtamaki’s latest invention, which offers mono-material flexible packaging in three different alternative material options: PAPER, PE (polyethylene), and PP (polypropylene) Retort. The new solutions are exceptional since there is no compromise in protective barriers, recyclability, or cost, with a mono-material share of up to 95% for PE and at least 90% for PAPER and PP.
In order to maximise the utilisation of resources, the amount of material utilised has been minimised. Across its entire manufacturing base, Huhtamaki has invested in new production technology, creating a worldwide supply capability for the latest innovations.
The developments will be on display at Interpack, where Huhtamaki will demonstrate its revolutionary technologies in the Huhtamaki blueroom, which is accessible to both current and potential Huhtamaki clients.
