Sulphuric acid is one of the most essential chemicals used in the chemical industry. It is a diprotic acid with the attribute of being a mineral acid that is highly corrosive. It's a colourless, water-soluble acid with a strong odour. Sulphuric acid is made in a variety of ways, including the contact process and the smelter by product route.
Because of its strong oxidising and dehydrating qualities, sulphuric acid is used in a variety of industries and industrial processes.Sulphuric acid is used in the production of phosphate fertilisers, metal processing, the production of phosphoric acid, wastewater treatment, mineral processing, as a cleaning agent, and the synthesis of a variety of compounds.
Sulfuric acid is created industrially by reacting water with sulphur trioxide, which is made by combining sulphur dioxide and oxygen in a chemical reaction using either the contact or chamber technique. Sulfuric acid is a chemical with a strong reactivity. When it comes into contact with cells and tissues, it can cause reactions. Sulfuric acid can cause everything from tissue irritation to chemical burns and necrosis.
Sulfuric acid is a highly reactive acid that dissolves most metals and oxidises, dehydrates, or sulfonates most organic molecules, causing charring. Sulfuric acid is not combustible, but it is a powerful oxidant that helps other compounds burn more efficiently. It does not burn itself. Sulfuric acid has the same mechanism of action in humans and animals. As a result, both animals and people should experience the same acute and persistent effects.
Sulfuric acid solutions that are highly concentrated are more harmful than diluted acid solutions. When sulfuric acid is combined with water, it has a very low vapour pressure and produces a lot of heat. It's used to manufacture fertilisers and other chemicals, as well as in petroleum refining, iron and steel manufacturing, and a variety of other applications.
The Europe Sulphuric Acid Market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
The WeylChem Group of Companies is quickly rising to prominence in Europe's sulphur chemical market. The group has now acquired INEOS Sulphur Chemicals Spain S.L.U., the top merchant manufacturer of sulfuric acid in Spain, from INEOS Enterprises as an addition to its current sulfuric acid factory in northern France.
In the future, the business will be known as WeylChem Bilbao S.L.U. This company's ultra-modern plant in Bilbao, Spain, has a capacity to produce 350 kt of sulfuric acid annually and employs about 50 people. Additionally, it provides molten sulphur and oleum to its clients. The deal goes into effect right away.
Moving forward, the two production facilities will have a robust integrated sales, distribution, and logistics setup. Joint procurement of supplies and services, engineering, EH&S, and supply chain optimization in the area will all be additional areas of cooperation.
This new company will be nimble and customer-focused, offering elite services and consistent delivery to a wide range of picky clients throughout Europe. The enterprise is a desirable addition to WeylChem's range of innovative intermediates and reagents and will support further development and expansion to fulfil customer demands in Europe.
Coromandel International Limited, the country's second largest phosphoric fertiliser company and a subsidiary of the Murugappa Group, has announced the start of a project to build a new sulphuric acid plant with a design capacity of 1650 metric tonnes per day at its fertiliser complex in Visakhapatnam.
The new sulphuric acid plant, for which an investment has been announced, will increase annual sulphuric acid production capacity by 5 lakh tonnes, bringing overall capacity to 11 lakh tonnes.Given the importance of fertilisers, this investment will increase the country's self-sufficiency and availability of phosphatic fertiliser.
To limit emissions, the new state-of-the-art sulphuric acid plant is being built in accordance with global best technology standards. The steam created by the operation will also be used to generate captive electricity. Rama Phosphates has begun commercial production of sulphuric acid and its derivatives from the new manufacturing facility at its current industrial premises in Indore. With the addition of 55000 TPA from Unit-2, the company's full annual Sulphuric Acid production capacity at its Indore manufacturing facility would be 155000 TPA.
