    A new high-heat and flame-retardant grade of the company’s Xydar liquid crystal polymers (LCP), which is created to satisfy crucial safety requirements in EV battery components, has been introduced, according to Solvay, a leader in the specialty materials market worldwide.

     

    The battery module plates of EV models working with higher voltage systems are the target market for the new Xydar LCP G-330 HH material, which addresses demanding thermal and insulation requirements. Xydar LCP G-330 HH is a glass-filled LCP for injection moulding that can maintain its electrical shielding after being exposed to 400°C for 30 minutes. 

     

    Without the use of halogen or bromine compounds, Xydar LCP is a polymer that is naturally flame retardant. It also provides exceptional flowability, which enables battery makers to create thinner parts than they could with traditional battery module insulation materials like polycarbonates or aerogels. With plates that were moulded with the typical dimensions of 100 x 150 x 0.5 mm, it was effectively tested. 

     

    Numerous electrical and electronic uses as well as coating applications have successfully used Xydar® LCP. A more sophisticated illustration of e-mobility includes thin-wall slot liners used in the rotor construction of an electric drive traction motor, in addition to automotive lighting components, sensors, solenoids, and connectors.
