GLOBAL FOOD GRADE POLYETHYLENE FILM MARKET

    INTRODUCTION

The food packaging market is expanding daily. Plastic films are a common material to use for packaging food. People often refer to plastic films as a single sort of material when discussing them.

In actuality, plastic films are made of a variety of materials, varying in complexity according to the needs of the product.

Plastic films outperform traditional materials for food packaging in terms of safety. The substance is extremely resistant to contamination and theft. The food goods have a longer shelf life.  The food items are given an enticing appearance by the material, which is also used for branding.Given its strength and durability, HDPE is typically regarded as the best plastic for use in food packaging.

HDPE is the least prone to leak toxins into the interior of food-safe plastics. In addition to being extremely flexible and not posing any health dangers, LDPE plastic is also unlikely to leak chemicals. But despite its many uses, it is rarely used to contain food or liquids.

It is very simple to determine whether a plastic material is food grade or not. The best way to tell is to look for the Resin Identification Code, also known as the recycling number. It aids in determining the type of plastic material. The code is any number between 1 and 7 stamped between an arrow triangle. Typically, the numbers “1” and “7” denote food grade plastics

GLOBAL FOOD GRADE POLYETHYLENE FILM MARKET SIZE AND FORECAST

The Global food grade polyethylene film market accounted for $XX Billion in 2021 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2022 to 2030.

    NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH

The new CRYOVAC Brand rBDF S10 film is made with up to 30% food-grade CCR and is manufactured by Sealed Air. It is certified by the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC). The 21 micron “ultra-thin” barrier, according to Sealed Air, is three times thinner than conventional thermoformable films and a third lighter than commonly used HFFS packs.

By preserving food integrity and increasing shelf life, leak-proof closures, hermetic sealing, and a protective barrier help minimise waste even further.Foods can be wrapped in film packaging with or without trays. Fresh red meat, chicken, fish, smoked and processed meat, cheese, convenience foods, and prepared meals are all great candidates for the overwrap film with modified atmosphere.

A novel polyethylene (PE) grade and cutting-edge film production technology have been combined to provide a sustainable packaging solution for frozen food by SABIC, a global leader in diverse chemicals. It has a far higher throughput compared to traditional blow PE film solutions and the option to down-gauge, which makes it appealing from both a commercial and environmentally friendly perspective.

An unheard-of benefit in this sector, the solution is based on a mono web TF-BOPE film structure with a thickness of only 20 micrometres. In comparison to current blown PE film, this thin gauge offers a possible packaging material reduction of about 35–50%.

The packaging solution’s lower thickness reduces its negative environmental effects and aids brand owners and retailers that want to use less packaging material. The new packaging option is compatible with mono-PE recycling streams and is 100% recyclable.

Walki is increasing its selection of recyclable materials in response to the rising demand for frozen meals. The recyclable paper-based Walki EVO Seal and Walki Opti Seal packaging is designed specifically for pillow-pouches for frozen food. While Walki Opti Seal has an enhanced PE-extrusion coating, Walki EVO Seal features a dispersion coating that acts as a barrier against water vapour and grease.

“Walki EVO Seal’s dispersion coating makes it recyclable in the waste-paper stream without the need for any sorting, while Walki Opti Seal’s minimised PE-coating qualifies it for recycling with paper that has an adequate fibre yield,” Lamibel MDO-PE is a film-based material for pillow pouches consisting of solvent-free laminated MDO-film with low sealing LDPE and reverse printed MDO-film.

By substituting MDO technology for other types of materials like PP or PET films, the film thickness is reduced while performance is increased. “The packaging is entirely recyclable in the plastics stream thanks to the use of two PE-films. In comparison to conventional PE, the stretched film has better optical and higher mechanical qualities. The consumer may be able to see the product if the film is clear.

At Packaging Innovations in Birmingham, UK, Camvac will introduce two new products: Camplus Extra MDO PE, a high-barrier metallized MDO PE in single web form and laminate structure, and ExtraPET PCR, a high-barrier lidding film with over 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content.

According to the manufacturer, ExtraPET PCR was specifically created to satisfy rising consumer demand for lidding film solutions that are more environmentally friendly. The new film’s goal is to lessen the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills. Additionally, it makes use of the circular economy, which lowers carbon emissions and the usage of fossil fuels while promoting recycling.

By successfully creating a high-barrier metallized machine-direction oriented PE film in single web and laminate form, Camvac has further increased the scope of their environmentally friendly packaging material films. This discovery makes recycling possible inside the circular economy. These laminate film constructions can be most common in the market for snack foods, such as crisp packaging and related end uses.
