In a lithium-ion battery, the cathode is typically comprised of cobalt, nickel, and manganese. Graphite is used to create the anode. Lithium can be stored on both the cathode and the anode.
High energy density is produced by the cathode’s nickel content. As a result, EVs can go further on a single charge. Cathodes are protected from overheating and fire by cobalt. Out of the 40 locations Verkor examined, Dunkirk is the one with the greatest potential. The complex, which covers more than 150 hectares, will help European and foreign automakers fulfil rising demand as the spread of high-performance electric vehicles across the continent picks up speed.
The location satisfies every Gigafactory requirement in terms of land, logistics, energy capacity, closeness to clients, availability of a skilled personnel, and scalability.
A new ecosystem of participants and products will be developed by the Verkor Gigafactory in Dunkirk to support the growth of Europe’s battery value chain. The high-performance, low-carbon batteries from Verkor’s website will support the French and European automobile industries’ ongoing excellence and innovation.
