    FRANCE EV BATTERY MARKET DYNAMICS

To assist Europe to satisfy the rising demand for electric vehicles and energy storage, a French start-up has announced plans to construct a 16GWh lithium-ion battery giga factory. Instead of attempting to create novel battery chemistries or formulae, the new business will adopt a “fast follower” strategy and use proven lithium-ion technology.

Verco has emerged from stealth mode after a year of work behind the scenes with plans to finish the low-carbon 16GWh facility at a yet-to-be-determined location in France. Verco is supported by French digital solutions provider Schneider Electric, EU innovation fund EIT InnoEnergy, and French real estate giant Groupe IDEC.

Renault Group revealed that it would form a joint venture with Chinese component maker Minth Group to enlarge an existing production line and produce battery parts.

Although the two organizations have been collaborating for a while, this is the first time their partnership has been formalized.  The manufacturing facility will make use of the infrastructure already in place at Renault because it is an enlargement of the Reitz factory, a facility that is a component of Electricity and is located in Northern France. The new production plant will concentrate on battery casings.
