Starlink Aviation is the new moniker for SpaceX’s in-flight internet service for aircraft.
Early this year, Hawaiian Airlines declared that it will be the first significant airline to offer free Wi-Fi to customers using the Starlink broadband satellite network.
The airline-focused portion of the company, however, lacked distinctive branding at the time. Earlier this morning, SpaceX tweeted the formal launch of the service along with a link to a webpage outlining the service.
In order to offer “new levels of dependability, redundancy, and performance,” the business claims that Starlink will be able to deliver up to 350Mbps broadband to aircraft equipped with their specially developed, low profile Aero Terminal. This terminal incorporates an electronically guided phased array antenna.
With “latency as low as 20ms,” it is said, passengers would be able to conduct video conversations, play online games, utilise VPNs, and engage in other bandwidth-hogging activities.
Because it was challenging to deliver dependable Wi-Fi across the Pacific Ocean, Hawaiian Airlines turned to SpaceX for in-flight internet.
The CEO at the time commented, “We waited until technology caught up with our high standards for the visitor experience, but the wait will be worthwhile.”
