Lear Corp. is releasing a recycled plastic bottle inside fabric for automobiles. Lear Corp., Southfield, Michigan, has announced the launch of a 100% recyclable sueded material in seats and door panel applications with a major automaker. According to Lear, the new material, named ReNewKnit, is the first-to-market automotive textile that is totally recyclable at the end of its life cycle.
It is made with recycled materials at the company's facilities in the United Kingdom and Poland, using 100 percent renewable electricity. According to the firm, the material was created by Guilford Performance Textiles by Lear and is made entirely of recycled plastic bottles.
ReNewKnit fibres are spun from polyester yarn and completed with a foam-free recycled fleece backing, reducing water and energy usage even more during the manufacturing process.According to Lear, the material "challenges notions of reused and recycled textiles with a diverse spectrum of textures appropriate for a variety of interior uses and better functioning."
