    INDIA ETHANOL MARKET DYNAMICS

    Bharat Petroleum, another prominent Indian oil and gas company, has collaborated with Humsafar India, a sustainable mobility solutions provider, to promote the adoption of ethanol blending in the transportation sector. This partnership focuses on building the necessary infrastructure, such as ethanol refueling stations, to support the increased use of ethanol-blended fuels.

    RECENT DEVELOPMENT

     

    With a successful pilot study on E27 fuel and Ethanol Blended Diesel Fuel, HPCL leads the way in India’s Ethanol Blending Programme. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) is pleased to announce the successful completion of a revolutionary pilot study on cars that use E27 fuel and Ethanol Blended Diesel Fuel.

     

    With this landmark achievement, HPCL becomes the first Oil Marketing Company in India to launch such a thorough research programme in accordance with the “Roadmap for Ethanol Blending in India,” which intends to encourage the use of ethanol blends in petrol.

     

     The strategy, which is intended to usher in a greener, more sustainable future, provides a phased rollout plan for achieving 20% Ethanol Blended Petrol (E20) by April and assuring its widespread availability by April of the following years.

     

    It also emphasizes the launch of E20-compliant and E10 engine-tuned vehicles beginning in April, followed by the manufacturing of E20-tuned engine vehicles beginning in April of the following year.

     

    Dedicated efforts are being made at HPCL’s cutting-edge Green R&D Centre at Devanagonthi, Bengaluru, to perform extensive research on biofuels. At the Engine Research laboratory, the skilled team is evaluating the effects and performance of various ethanol-gasoline blends ranging from 10% to 27%, as well as various ethanol-diesel blends, on various categories of test cars.

     

    Preliminary experiments on cars fueled with E27 have revealed significant reductions in emissions such as CO and THC when compared to regular petrol.     HPCL will also examine ethanol-diesel trials on passenger automobiles as part of the pilot launch, with a target mileage accumulation of 20,000 km initially. HPCL is happy to be the first Oil Marketing Company in India to launch a pilot study on vehicles that run on E27 fuel and Ethanol Blended Diesel Fuel.

     

    Six vehicles participated in the pilot, including a 1x4W and 2x2W configuration for E27 fuel testing, a 1x4W configuration for Ethanol mixed Diesel fuel testing, a 1x3W configuration for Compressed Bio-Gas fuel testing, and a 1x4W configuration for E20 fuel study. The E27 fuel pilot research will evaluate its performance and emissions in engines and cars over a long period of time.

     

    For this phase, mileage accumulation of up to 10,000 km for two-wheelers and 20,000 km for passenger automobiles using E27 fuel is envisaged. In addition, ethanol testing in line with IS 1460:2017 fuel standards will be done.
