A lithium-ion battery, often known as a Li-ion battery, is a type of rechargeable battery that stores energy by the reversible reduction of lithium ions.
It is the most common kind of battery used in electric vehicles and portable consumer gadgets. Additionally, grid-scale energy storage as well as military and aerospace applications make major use of it. Li-ion batteries have higher energy densities, less self-discharge, and no memory effect than other rechargeable battery technologies.
The different varieties of lithium-ion batteries have different chemistry, performance, cost, and safety properties. Intercalation chemicals are used as the active components in the majority of commercial Li-ion cells.
The India Lithium ion battery market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
Launch of the Li-Ion LFP Cell by Bharat Electronics Ltd. BEL (Bharat Electronics Limited) has made the decision to create lithium-ion battery cells for electric vehicles that were developed domestically. Li-ion is the primary battery technology used in e-Mobility. The Li-Ion LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate, or LiFePO4) chemical has a long cycle life and is a safer option for EV applications.
India currently imports Li-Ion cells for use in battery packs. To create self-reliance in Li-Ion cell manufacturing, BEL has entered a joint venture with NSTL (DRDO) to manufacture Li-Ion cells for use in defense and e-Mobility applications.
3.2V, 10 Ah, and 25 Ah Li-Ion prismatic cells have been created and manufactured by BEL using raw materials like anode, cathode, electrolyte, solvents, binder, and more. The anticipated applications of these cells include remote power systems, e-mobility, and underwater applications.
