A chemical substance having the formula CH3C6H3(NCO)2 is toluene diisocyanate (TDI). Commercially, 2,4-TDI (CAS: 584-84-9) and 2,6-TDI are the two most significant of the six potential isomers (CAS: 91-08-7).
Although 2,4-TDI is synthesized in its pure form, it is frequently sold as 80/20 and 65/35 blends of the 2,4 and 2,6 isomers, respectively.
With 34.1% of the global isocyanate market, it is the second-largest producer after MDI. Although commercial samples can appear yellow, all TDI isomers are colorless.
As a common chemical intermediate, toluene diisocyanate is used to make polyurethane foams, elastomers, and coatings as well as paints, varnishes, wire enamels, sealants, adhesives, and binders. In the production of nylon polymers, it also functions as a cross-linking agent.
The India Toluene diisocyanate(TDI)market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
BASF revealed plans to expand other plants for its precursors and construct a single-train, 300,000 metric ton/year TDI (toluene diisocyanate) production facility at its Ludwigshafen location.
These projects involve the development of a brand-new hydrogen chloride recycling facility as well as the expansion of facilities for synthesis gas, chlorine, and nitric acid.
The site's aromatics complex will also be expanded in order to increase toluene supplies. When the new plant is operating, BASF intends to close its 80,000 metric tons per year TDI production facility in Schwarz Heide, Germany. TDI is a crucial element mostly utilized in flexible polyurethane foams.
The largest Ver bund site in Ludwigshafen is where they will build their new TDI plant, giving them the benefit of superior production synergies, raw material integration, and logistics.
The new TDI plant and its associated facilities improve BASF's competitiveness. Associated investments in infrastructure and precursors will foster further expansion in other BASF value chains.
