The electrolyte affects things like the design of electrodes and the materials used to produce them. Alkali, molten carbonate, phosphoric acid, proton exchange membrane (PEM), and solid oxide are today’s predominant electrolyte types. The first three electrolytes are liquids, while the final two are solids.

Currently in Italy for demonstrations with operator Arriva Italia, the Caetano H2.City Gold. The bus, together with its features and capabilities, were displayed at an event hosted at the Trieste Trasporti headquarters during which it was also possible to do road testing around the city’s streets. The pilot represents the introduction of hydrogen buses by Caetano in Italy.
According to the bus manufacturer, the Caetano H2.City Gold, a 12 m urban bus with a range of over 400 km and co-branded with Toyota, can equal the autonomy of traditional diesel buses with just one refill. The car is better for the environment because it emits only water vapour and nothing else.
