The tractor-driven bucket scrapper has a laser receiver installed atop it instead of a power pole. Its responsibility is to recognise the laser beam coming from the laser transmitter and provide the control box a high, low, or on-grade signal in accordance with the predetermined field level.

In the laser mode of communication, there are no barriers or obstructions between the wireless transmitter and wireless receiver while the signals are conveyed.

When there are no obstructions in the path of the signals, this situation is sometimes referred to as a line of sight condition.

Mitsubishi Electric Develops World’s First Laser Communication Terminal Integrating Space Optical Communication and Spatial Acquisition.

High-resolution satellite imaging is used to assess catastrophe damage, however because such images are delivered via radio waves, it has proven challenging to broadcast high-resolution photos in real time due to data capacity and antenna size limits.

To assist fast and accurate damage assessments following disasters, large-capacity, high-speed space optical communications that do not require optical fibre are required.

However, because space optical communications use very small laser beams, about 1/1000th the width of radio waves, the issue has been determining how to properly align laser beams with fast-moving satellites.

Mitsubishi Electric has now created an optical receiver that addresses this issue by incorporating functions to detect both four phase shifts of laser light and beam direction.

As a result, a miniaturised optical receiver is created, allowing for space optical communication with 10 times the speed, capacity, and distance of radio-wave transmission.

Because the wavelength is substantially shorter, smaller antennas can be employed in compact communication devices that can be deployed in places where optical fibre is difficult to install, such as between buildings.

Installations are also conceivable in regions where typical infrastructure is unavailable, such as disaster zones, poor countries, or rural areas, allowing wireless communications to be used in a variety of conditions.
