For use in joining LIDAR assemblies, camera modules, and other active alignment applications, Dymax has developed a line of cationic LED/UV-curing epoxy-based adhesives. These adhesives have a low temperature (80–85°C) thermal-cure feature that can be used to address shadow areas or as the main method of curing.

 

The physical and mechanical qualities of the cured product will be the same whether it is heated or UV/LED cured. Due to the presence of chain transfer agents, settings with high humidity (>70%) and basic substrates might slow down the pace of cationic polymerization.

 

The thermal initiator-free, LED/UV-curable only epoxy-based active alignment adhesives Dymax is developing are intended for situations that do not call for a dedicated secondary heat-cure step.

 

As a result, the adhesive will maintain its rapid curing/low shrink qualities for a longer period of time at room temperature and will have access to more curing options. When compared to other commercial products of a similar kind, Dymax active alignment adhesives require cold storage between 1 and 5°C and dry ice packaging for delivery.
