The lithium iron phosphate battery, also known as the LFP (lithium ferro-phosphate) battery or Li-IP battery, is a form of lithium-ion battery that uses a graphitic carbon electrode with a metallic support as the anode and lithium iron phosphate as the cathode material.
LFP batteries are playing a variety of roles in vehicle use, utility-scale stationary applications, and backup power because of its cheaper cost, high safety, low toxicity, long cycle life, and other aspects. Cobalt is absent from LFP batteries.
The Global Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode market accounted for $XX Billion in 2021 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2022 to 2030.
The most popular battery technology for e-Mobility is lithium-ion. For EV applications, Li-Ion LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate - LiFePO4) chemistry with a long cycle life is a safer option.
Imported Li-Ion cells are used to create battery packs. BEL and NSTL (DRDO) have entered the field of Li-Ion cell manufacture for defence and e-Mobility applications in an effort to become self-sufficient in Li-Ion cell production.
For the development and production of Li-Ion prismatic cells, BEL has set up a pilot facility. BEL has created and produced three different types of Li-Ion prismatic cells, namely 3.2V, 10 Ah, and 25 Ah, using raw materials such anode, cathode, electrolyte, solvents, and binder.
These cells are intended for use in remote power systems, e-mobility, underwater applications, and more.
