INTRODUCTION
A merchant submarine is a subtype of submarine designed for trade; unlike most other subtypes of submarines, it lacks guns and is not regarded as a warship. It would be used for blockade running or for diving beneath Arctic ice.
A wide range of missions, including anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare, information gathering, mine reconnaissance, ground attacks, polar operations, Special Forces support, and guarding other fleet ships, are all tasks that submarines are capable of performing.
Civilian uses include marine science, salvage, exploration, and facility inspection and maintenance. Moreover, submarines can be modified to perform particular tasks including search and rescue operations and the maintenance of underwater cables. They are also employed in underwater archaeology and tourism.

RECENT DEVELOPMENT
Third Scorpene Class Submarine of India, "Karanj," is launched by MDL. Earlier today, the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), which is constructing India's third Scorpene class submarine, "Karanj," under licence for the Indian Navy (IN), launched it.
The launch of the Karanj serves to further emphasise how the Scorpene Class licence build programme has revitalised India's ability to manufacture diesel-electric submarines, as they have previously analysed.
Karanj was towed to Mumbai Port Trust where it was permitted to enter the water after being removed from drydock in a submarine launch pontoon. Before it gets commissioned into the IN, Karanj will now go through a series of demanding trials and examinations, both on land and at sea.
As a result, Karanj is the third of a set of six Scorpene Class submarines that MDL is constructing in coordination with France's Naval Group (formerly DCNS).
According to a statement made on the occasion of the launch of Karanj, "Karanj marked a significant departure from the manning and training philosophy that was adopted for the first two submarines," and that "from the third submarine onwards, the Navy would be fully self reliant in training and certification processes." Furthermore, They mentioned
