Water/methanol injection’s primary purpose is to prevent detonation, but with the right tuning, it can also produce 10 to 15% more horsepower and torque.
In order to lower air inlet temperatures and raise octane to reduce that pesky little thing known as “detonation” or “knock,” water/methanol injection is the process of injecting an atomized mixture of water and methanol fuel into your car’s intake (or cold charge pipe).
Detonation occurs when fuel and air burn during the ignition cycle too quickly, causing forces to build up inside the combustion chamber. When a bomb detonates, the piston is still moving upward but is being pushed back down by forces.
This causes energy to be transferred and a variety of effects, including piston damage known as “piston slap,” where the energy pushes the piston up against the cylinder walls, and broken pistons and piston rings.Usually, the water meth tank is located in the back of the car, right next to the pump.
The majority of kits also include an extra filter that you can purchase. The water meth pump draws the mixture in a nylon tube out of the tank.
The tube then exits the pump and ascends to the nozzle at the front of the car. Most systems don’t require much installation work, but some, like the Aquamist brand, integrate with the electronics of the car as well.
Global methanol injection system market accounted for $XX Billion in 2022 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
CA, HAWTHORNE AEM has updated its water/methanol injection systems for gas and turbo diesel engines once more, this time with a ground-breaking injector design that enhances atomization to deliver quicker inlet temperature cooling and use less fluid to maintain cooling.
Together with a new WMI pump design that is completely waterproof, this significant advancement in injector technology makes it safe for engine bay and frame rail mounting.
In all of AEM’s WMI systems, the V3 injector replaces the previous V2 injector, and it is available as an upgrade for current systems (PN 30-3313).
