Most of Nepal's yearly energy sector greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are produced by the transport sector.
The Government of Nepal (GON) has identified the widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) as a top priority for the transportation sector and as a means of achieving Nepal's second enhanced Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) aim of having electric public transportation vehicles.
According to the GON, the nation will eventually experience a net annual surplus of hydropower.
The "Nepal - Electric Transportation" NAMA Support Project (NSP) seeks to promote electric transportation technologies while methodically removing the aforementioned obstacles to the electrification of the transportation industry.
A combination of financial tools and technical support will be provided by the NSP, with an emphasis on the minibus market in the Kathmandu Valley and beyond.
Through changes to policy, regulation, and permitting as well as increased capacity, the project will assist public transportation providers in financing and deploying electric minibuses (EMB) and charging stations across the country. It will also strengthen and support the widespread adoption of EVs.
Additionally, the national government will set up and begin operating an Electric Mobility Unit. Overall, the project encourages green job creation, clean transportation entrepreneurship, and expanded commuting, all of which are essential for economic recovery.

Tata Motors launches the Tigor EV in Nepal with the goal of popularising electric vehicles.

Speaking at the launch of the Tigor EV in Nepal, Tata Motors' head of the passenger vehicle international business stated: "EVs are fast gaining popularity on the back of rising customer comfort, as adoption barriers are being overcome, and due to growing preference for environmentally friendly solutions.
