    These new CPUs significantly outperform existing 130 nm PowerQUICC III chips at 1.5 GHz.Numerous high-speed connectivity options are available with the MPC8548E, MPC8547E, MPC8545E, and MP8543/E CPUs, including Gigabit Ethernet, Serial RapidIO technology, and PCI Express.


    When these high-speed interfaces are supported, the PowerQUICC III can process sophisticated, computationally demanding control plane processing tasks while providing scalable access to network processors and/or ASICs in the data plane.


    These processors also include integrated security engines that handle the Kasumi algorithm required for 3G wireless security, a next-generation double data rate (DDRII) memory controller, increased Gigabit Ethernet compatibility, double precision floating point, and double precision floating point. The XOR acceleration required for parity in storage applications is also supported.
