Wafer intended for the semiconductor industry is polished using chemical-mechanical polishing rings, also known as CMP retention rings. Components are held onto a shaft or into a bore using retaining rings.
Instead of using different means to attach to most shafts or bores because of their smooth, rounded finishes, retention rings clamp around them to produce a shoulder that holds items in place.
At each layer of the wafer, chemical mechanical planarization (or polishing, or CMP) is a crucial step that is performed repeatedly in the semiconductor manufacturing process to remove extra materials and produce a flat surface. There are five basic categories of retaining rings: Constant Section, Hoopster, Single-Turn Spiro lox Retaining Rings, and Multiple-Turn Spiro lox Retaining Rings.
Retaining rings can be used to secure shafts and housings in place of traditional fasteners like nuts, bolts, and cotter pins, which in the past required a variety of machining processes including drilling and tapping.
The global PEEK CMP Retaining Rings market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
Will be S&T, a leader in the Korean LCD and semiconductor industries, used VICTREX PEEK polymer for its CMP (chemical mechanical planarization) retaining rings. When compared to conventional two-piece bonded type CMP retention rings constructed of stainless steel and polyphenylene sulphide, Will be S&T’s insert molded CMP ring offers greater performance, a longer lifespan, and a lower cost (PPS).
The lifespan of CMP retaining rings has been extended because of the use of VICTREX PEEK material, which has also improved CMP fabrication yields and cut costs.
Under high pressure and rotation, the front and rear of standard CMP rings may split, which could harm the wafer. Will be insert ring approach, which covers the metal with the VICTREX PEEK polymer to protect it from dust and the separation of the two sections, however, prevents such occurrences.
“VICTREX PEEK polymer provides the best material combination of chemical resistance, heat resistance, and electrical capabilities, making it ideal for manufacturing CMP retaining rings that have strict quality requirements,
