A nickel-iron magnetic alloy called Permalloy has nickel and iron. It stands out for having an exceptionally high magnetic permeability, which makes it valuable as a magnetic core material in electrical and electronic equipment as well as for magnetic shielding to block magnetic fields.
Ordinary steel has a relative permeability of several thousand, but commercial permalloy alloys typically have. A new product called STARPAS-50PC2S, permalloy foil, has been introduced by Daido Steel Co., Ltd., and it has exceptional performance in suppressing EMC noise, mostly magnetic noise at low frequencies below about 100kHz.
Higher frequencies used in communication, Internet of Things, and electric vehicle equipment cause EMC noise to be produced.There are two series in STARPAS: PC2S and DF42N.
The DF42N series uses a high saturation magnetic flux density material DF42N which is excellent for suppressing strong magnetic noise, whereas the PC2S series uses a high permeability material MEN PC-2S to suppress weak noise with high sensitivity.
These are shielding materials that are effective at reducing noise in the middle frequency region, primarily up to the MHz band, and have a thickness of less than 30 m.
