    Station TCS is a network of control units, radio units, and a variety of passive radio frequency identification (RFID) tags put at all of the station’s key locations as well as block sections placed nearby. A speed sensor, RFID reader, radio unit, and display unit are all connected to the onboard control system known as Loco TCS.

     

    In order to read the RFID tags installed between the rails and collect information such as the unique tag id, direction of travel, and unique track identification number, a loco TCS RFID reader is attached under the locomotive’s frame (TIN).

     

    Through the radio link, this information is sent to the station TCS. Based on the RFID tag ID, the station TCS finds the train in its database and notifies the locomotive TCS of the impending signal aspect and distance.
