According to Scientific and Technical Terms, self-extinguishing refers to a substance's capacity to stop burning after the flame's source has been extinguished. Materials that ignite in a fire and go out on their own once the fire has been put out are said to be self-extinguishing. Materials that burn in a fire but do not spread are said to be "fireproof."
The Global self-extinguishing resin market accounted for $XX Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to reach $XX Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of XX% from 2024 to 2030.
Transparent, self-extinguishing epoxy resin that has been altered by a bio-based derivative that contains phosphine oxide.
Furan derivatives and diphenyl phosphine oxide underwent an addition process to create a bio-based curing agent that contains phosphine oxide. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy both verified the molecular structure of the as-prepared bio-based curing agent.
The results of the dynamic mechanical analysis showed that the glass transition temperature of epoxy/bio-based curing agent composites decreased as the content of bio-based curing agents increased. This was attributed to the steric effect of diphenyl phosphine oxide species, which may inhibit the curing reaction, as well as the decrease in cross-linking density caused by mono-functional N-H.
The produced epoxy composite attained UL-94 V-0 grade and a limiting oxygen index of 32.0 vol-% by adding 7.5 wt-% bio-based curing agent. The peak heat release rate and overall heat release of the composites significantly reduced as the amount of the bio-based curing agent increased.
The epoxy matrix was encouraged to carbonize by the bio-based curing agent, increasing the char production and improving heat resistance. The high-quality char layer worked as a reliable barrier to slow the flow of oxygen and volatiles needed for breakdown between the flame and the liquid polymers.
