The new A33230 sine/cosine 3D Hall-effect position sensor IC was unveiled by Allegro MicroSystems. The A33230 is the smallest sine/cosine 3D sensor currently on the market and provides system designers with a quick-to-market, cost-effective option for automotive and industrial applications.
For enhanced high-speed performance, the A33230 has two independent analogue signal channels, and its small SOT23-W package size makes it perfect for applications where PCB space is at a premium. If the system has an electronic control unit (ECU) that can perform CORDIC calculations on the two outputs, the IC can also be used as an angle sensor.
With sensing axes that are orthogonal to one another, the A33230’s vertical and planar Hall-effect elements provide 90 degrees of phase separation, which is fundamentally independent of magnet pole spacing and air gap. The sensor features independent sine and cosine outputs and is pre-programmed to measure angle in any plane (XY, XZ, or YZ).
Hall-effect sine/cosine sensors are excellent for a wide range of position and angle sensors in automotive and industrial applications, such as factory robots, windshield wipers, and in-cabin motors. This is because they can sense fields in the X, Y, and Z planes.
