When a person's capacity to walk is affected by a condition, gait analysis is used to diagnose and treat the person. Athletes can run more effectively with its assistance, and it is frequently used in sports biomechanics to spot posture- or movement-related issues in injured individuals.
Low-cost sensors are integrated into the Smart Insole, which calculates significant movement characteristics. Using data from movement in the sagittal and coronal planes, as well as symmetry calculations, gaitSmart tests assess the three dimensions of walking.

The wireless sensors found in PODOSmart insoles, which can be inserted into any type of shoe, allow for the measurement of spatial, temporal, and kinematic gait data. Multiple sensors in the intelligent insoles track and record foot motions, and a microprocessor computes gait-related biomechanical data. The purpose of this research is to describe the features of this tool and to validate it in comparison to a system based on stereophotogrammetry.
Eleven healthy people were subjected to gait analysis for validation on a six-metre pathway using the PODOSmart and Vicon systems. Gait parameters had their intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) computed. Gait parameters' ICC for validation varied from 0.313 to 0.990.
The variables with the greatest ICC were cadence, circumduction, walking speed, stride length, and stride duration. When compared to the industry standard Vicon, PODOSmart is a reliable instrument for gait analysis.
PODOSmart is a portable gait analysis tool with an affordable price, making it a valuable new tool for analysing gait in both healthy and pathological populations. Without the limitations of conventional devices, the sensor-based insoles assess both the spatial and temporal gait parameters. They can, for instance, provide readings without the use of wires.
