South Africa is attempting to capture a piece of the emissions-free transportation pie as it investigates electric vehicle manufacturing. Given the country’s persistent power outages, electric vehicles (EV) may appear to be an odd engineering choice.
However, the local automobile sector is hopeful that it will be able to meet the global demand for electric vehicles, particularly in Africa. Range anxiety, or motorists’ fear of being stranded on a lengthy journey, is a key impediment to the adoption of electric vehicles in South Africa.
The electric vehicle market is establishing itself as an important part of the automobile sector, offering a way to attain higher levels of energy efficiency while reducing pollution emissions and other greenhouse gases.
Furthermore, in South Africa, EV manufacturers are creating solar-powered micro grids, which provide a large possibility for decentralized charging infrastructure and the introduction of electrified public transportation, both of which present significant market opportunities.
Mazibuko is a leading mobiliser of the various explorer oriented electric vehicle manufacturer requirements in the market. The M1B will be based on MMC’s own EV platform, dubbed a “skateboard framework” by the firm because of its high degree of flexibility and scalability.
